Information

2026–2027 Tournament Rules: The first stage will be contested by teams from the J1, J2, and J3 leagues. The two teams participating in the AFC Champions League Elite (Kashima Antlers and Vissel Kobe) will advance directly to the semifinals, while the remaining 58 teams will be divided into six groups for single-match knockout matches. The four teams from the AFC Champions League Second Stage (Cerezo Osaka, Machida Zelvia, Gamba Osaka, and Kyoto Sanga) will begin their campaign in the fourth round and will face opponents within their own group (in matchups between the 3rd-place team and the 6th-place team, and between the 4th-place team and the 5th-place team). The six teams that advance from the fourth round, along with the two teams participating in the AFC Champions League Elite (Kashima Antlers and Vissel Kobe), will qualify for the semifinals. Both the semifinals and the final will be played as two-legged home-and-away ties. If the aggregate score is tied after both legs, extra time will be played; if the extra time also ends in a tie, the winner will be determined through a penalty shootout. The final will be held at a neutral venue. In case of a draw after 90 minutes, extra time will be played until a winner is decided via penalty kicks.
